BECKLEY, W.V. — A Raleigh County man is facing charges after Beckley Police say he brought a handgun to a Woodrow Wilson High School football game Friday night.
Deputy Chief Morgan G. Bragg said officers were alerted shortly before 9 p.m. that an adult attendee had a firearm on school property. When officers approached the man, identified as 20-year-old Stephon Tyreese Yancy, he allegedly became combative and resisted them. Police took him into custody after a brief struggle and said they found a handgun in his possession.
Yancy is charged with possession of a deadly weapon on the premises of an educational facility, violation of a protective order and obstructing an officer.
Bragg said Yancy also had pending charges in another case and had been released on bond. He is being held at Southern Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond in the new case.
